Building the future together!
Construction of the new ZAS Palfijn Hospital building, which will house the new Johnson & Johnson Clinical Pharmacology Unit (CPU) on the top floor in Merksem, is getting underway. On this page we will keep you informed!

First spade stroke: October 2, 2024
At the Johnson & Johnson CPU in Merksem, we are advancing healthcare through groundbreaking Phase 1 clinical research. To continue complex and innovative studies that help patients, a brand-new facility is being built on the campus of ZAS Hospital in Antwerp, Belgium. The first spade stroke was poked on Oct. 2, 2024, and the facility will be operational in 2027. Construction has just begun and will be done in four phases as part of a larger hospital project.
We expect a smooth transition with no interruption to our work. The current CPU will remain operational until the new site is equipped and certified. Ensuring the safety of our volunteers remains our top priority.
Starting in the summer of 2024, a large work zone will be cordoned off in front of the main entrance to ZAS Palfijn. The J&J CPU will remain accessible as usual during the works.
